茶是茶艺所表现的主角，水、器、人、艺、境的选择与安排。茶的美体现在茶名、茶形、茶色、茶香和茶味五个方面。

中国茶的名称五花八门，大致可以分为几类：

地名加茶树的植物学名，例如杭州西湖产的西湖龙井。

地名加茶叶的外形特征，如安徽六安产的茶形类似瓜片的六安瓜片。
